"CF Awareness" by Elena Goodrow

When I was a mere 10 years old, I was invited to speak to government officials in the state of Georgia about cystic fibrosis awareness. At that time, people with CF (and other chronic illnesses) were calling for reform among the healthcare system. We still are, unfortunately!

Although I was quite young, I was not a stranger to speaking to large groups of important people. That experience, among many others, shaped me in a myriad of ways. This month I am reflecting on my advocacy throughout my childhood. I fought hard to make my voice heard, no matter how people viewed me because of my age. When I spoke at the Georgia State Capitol, a friend was able to catch my speech on video. It’s not great quality, but it is fascinating to me to be able to look back at this time of my life.
